Tretinoin gel .05% (A-Ret) is a topical vitamin A treatment used to improve acne, fine lines, uneven skin texture, and discoloration. This retinoid increases skin cell turnover, unclogs pores, and smooths surface texture. It is often recommended for comedonal acne, including whiteheads and blackheads, and is also the only topical ingredient clinically proven to reduce wrinkles.

How to Apply Tretinoin Gel .05%

Apply a very thin layer to clean, completely dry skin at night. It is helpful to wait 20–30 minutes after washing your face before applying.

If you are new to tretinoin:

Start with every other night
Increase to nightly as tolerated

Avoid the corners of the nose and mouth, the eye area, and broken skin. In the morning, cleanse gently and apply moisturizer.

Visible improvement in acne may take 8–12 weeks, and texture improvement may take several months. Using more product than instructed will not speed results and may increase irritation.

Precautions & Sun Sensitivity

Tretinoin increases sun sensitivity. Use sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) daily and avoid tanning beds. Do not apply to sunburned or irritated skin. Avoid harsh exfoliants, astringents, alcohol-based products, and acid exfoliants unless directed by a provider.
