More product information:

This is considered a medium-strength retinoid. A great choice for those looking to tackle aging skin, eliminate acne and reduce psoriasis.

What is Tazret Gel (tazarotene)?

Tazarotene is a third generation topical retinoid (like tretinoin) sold as a cream or gel and is approved for treatment of psoriasis, acne, and sun damaged skin (photodamage).

For best results apply gel once daily before bedtime after washing the face with a mild cleanser. We recommend using a moisturizer with tazarotene so skin will not be as dry and flaky.

How Do I apply It?

  • Apply tazarotene gel using a thin film to cover the lesions only (if using for psoriasis). If using for acne or anti-wrinkle regimen, apply a thin layer over face and allow to dry.
  • If a bath or shower is taken before applying tazarotene gel, make sure that the skin is dry before applying tazarotene gel.
  • Do not allow tazarotene gel to come into contact with unaffected skin.
  • Wash your hands immediately after using tazarotene gel unless you have psoriasis on your hands.

Cautions:

  • Do NOT use tazarotene gel if you are allergic to any ingredient in tazarotene gel, OR if you are pregnant or if you are able to become pregnant and are not using effective birth control.  And as with all retinoids: Do not breast-feed while taking tazarotene gel.
  • Tazarotene gel is for external use only.
  • Avoid using other topical medication, cosmetics, or other products that have a strong drying effect. If you have dry skin from using these products, allow your skin to “rest” before using tazarotene gel.
  • Do not use tazarotene gel on skin with eczema or for any condition other than that for which it is designed (for acne, psoriasis, or photodamage)
  • If you have a sunburn, do not use tazarotene gel on the sunburned skin until it has fully healed.
  • Weather extremes, such as windy or cold weather, may irritate your skin more while you are using tazarotene gel.
  • If you are using a cream or lotion to soften or moisten your skin, apply them at least 1 hour before applying tazarotene cream.
  • Tazarotene gel may cause harm if it is swallowed. If you may have taken it by mouth, contact your poison control center or emergency room right away.
  • Do not cover the treated area with dressings or bandages.
  • Tazarotene gel may cause you to become sunburned more easily. Avoid the sun, sunlamps, or tanning booths until you know how you react to tazarotene gel. Use a sunscreen (minimum 15 SPF) or wear protective clothing if you must be outside for more than a short time. It should not be used if you are also taking other drugs that increase your sensitivity to sunlight (e.g., thiazides, tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, phenothiazines, sulfonamides)

Possible side effects of tazarotene gel: Burning; dry skin; irritation; itching; peeling; redness; scaling; skin inflammation; skin pain; stinging.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur:  Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); severe or prolonged itching, burning, redness, or peeling; sunburn; swelling of the skin, hands, or feet; worsening of psoriasis.
