More product information:
Melalite Forte Cream (Hydroquinone 4% Cream) is used for the gradual “bleaching” of hyperpigmented skin conditions such as chloasma, melasma, freckles, senile lentigines, and other unwanted areas of hyperpigmentation that may occur due to pregnancy, skin trauma, the use of birth control pills, or hormone replacement therapy.
Topical application of hydroquinone produces a reversible depigmentation of the skin by inhibiting enzymatic oxidation of tyrosine to 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine and suppression of other melanocyte metabolic processes. In other words, hydroquinone blocks melanin production which makes hyperpigmented areas lighten. It does not technically “bleach” skin. Exposure to sunlight or ultraviolet light will cause repigmentation of lightened areas.
Test for skin sensitivity before using by applying a small amount to an unbroken patch of skin; check within 24 hours. Sunscreen use is an essential aspect of hydroquinone therapy because even minimal sunlight sustains melanocytic activity. To prevent skin repigmentation during treatment and maintenance therapy, sun exposure on treated skin should be avoided by application of a broad spectrum sunscreen (SPF 15 or greater) or by use of protective clothing. Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes.
Hydroquinone 4% Cream should be applied to affected areas and rubbed in well twice daily, in the morning and before bedtime, or as directed by a physician. If no improvement is seen after two months of treatment, discontinue use of this product.
Note: hydroquinone works optimally when used in combination with tretinoin products, because while tretinoin deeply exfoliates the skin, hydroquinone can reach deeper levels of the skin to more effectively target darkened areas.
